GratiTUBE: A gift of a lifetime!
She was 8. On her 9th birthday, she wanted to bring clean water to 15 people. Instead she brought clean water to 60,000 people. This is the story of Rachel’s wish and the world’s generosity.
Rachel Beckwith was not just an average 9-year-old. She had a heart that wanted to solve every problem she saw. She once cut off all her hair and donated it to make wigs for children who had cancer. On her 9th birthday she had a wish. She wanted to raise $300 so 15 people could get clean water to drink. She fell a little short at $220 and told her mother that she would try harder the next year.
A month later Rachel died in a tragic car accident. When people around the world heard about her wish, they began to donate on her page. Within a few months, 30000 people had given more than $1.2 million.
Rachel’s wish brought clean water to 60,000 people in over 100 villages in Africa.
On this International Women’s Day, we celebrate and salute Rachel’s spirit.
