When a lifelong volunteer finds his partner…
…what takes place is a special volunteer wedding with a difference!
All he says in his bio is “I’m a volunteer!” He proudly calls himself Karthee Volunteer. The name however changed in a life-changing event to KartheeVidya Volunteer, when he chose to take his wife’s name after marriage. And it was no common place wedding. It was a beautiful expression of service and volunteering on the most beautiful day of their lives.
It started with their wedding invitation cards. Typically hundreds of wedding invites are sent out to friends and families and after the wedding day most are discarded; resulting in a lot of paper wastage. Karthee and Vidya’s wedding invites were of the size of a visiting card. An initiative which all their guests appreciated! More over the wedding card didn’t just give the details about the marriage; one side of it was used to encourage guests to do random acts of kindness!
To reduce wastage further, they ensured that no plastic cups or water bottles were used. Guests were served food on banana leaves and paper cups, that can be recycled, were used for serving water.
They donated 200 saplings and 400 books during their wedding.
12/365 – A message encouraging guests to volunteer and experience the joy of giving at least once a month was written at multiple places during the wedding – on their invitation cards; at the hall entrance; on their stage; on the sapling bags and on the gift bags (Thambulam Bag) that the guests were given after the wedding was over!
And is even more inspiring is how Karthee was moved by love to change his name and take his wife’s name.
Love, volunteering and service defines this couple. We send all our best wishes on their volunteering journey!
