GratiTUBE: Share My Dabba because Sharing is Caring
“बाटने से प्यार बढ़ता है” – Hindi proverb
(Love increases by sharing)
Who doesn’t know the century old quintessential Mumbai Dabbawala – the man in white kurta pyjama, with the traditional white Gandhi cap carrying a crate of tiffins? Come rain or sun, he would make sure that your home-cooked meal reaches you in time!
But now he goes a step further and he thinks about the many street children who sleep without food. He thinks about the food that you leave in your tiffin. And he comes up with a solution! – Share My Dabba 🙂
Share My Dabba allows the chance to everyone to share their tiffin-boxes with the less fortunate.
The idea here being that you are “sharing” your lunch with another person and not just giving away your leftover food.

Remember school days when everyone used to come together and try what the other student’s mom has sent? Here’s a chance of sharing your mom’s cooking with many more! 🙂 It’s a way of bringing together mothers, office goers, dabbawalas, volunteers and children in a circle of sharing and caring.
All you need to do is put a ‘Share’ sticker on your tiffin/ dabba. On their way back after collecting the tiffins, the dabbawalas will separate the boxes with stickers and volunteers will then distribute the food to slum children.
Share My Dabba is a non-profit collaboration between Happy Life Welfare Society and The Dabbawala Foundation. The initiative is currently only in Mumbai, using the Dabbawala network but we do hope it will soon spread to other places! Those interested can get ‘Share’ stickers by sending an email to happylifewelfare@gmail.com.
